An exciting development and Community Resource for Ashington!
REAL DEAL PLUS acquired the old Police Station and Court House on Station Road in
Ashington in November 2014.
The Charity is using the building to implement a community support programme and
provide much needed help and support to the residents of Ashington.
The Ashington Life Centre acts as a community hub offering help, counselling and
support programmes as well as life skills training. We also operate an emergency
food bank which provides support when social services and other food banks are closed.
Ashington LifeCentre provides a wealth of resources for the local community. A Teen
Bar, Community Café with freshly made soup and ‘Meal Days’, Gardening project, Furniture
Supply project, Emergency Food Bank and much more. We have facilities to let such
as our training room and large Function Room. Several offices have been refurbished
and enquiries from Community groups, small businesses/individuals are welcomed. We
have recently updated our kitchen facilities and a healthy meal programme (hot meals/soups)
is now in full swing.
Our Youth Project at the Centre is based around the coffee bar which is currently
open on Monday & Tuesday evenings and Saturdays to provide a safe place for young
people aged 10-16 to ‘drop in’ and chat and also take part in various projects and
activities. See our ‘Youth Programme’ page for more details. It is intended that
a variety of training programs will be run from the centre and we have both independent
trainers and companies keen to provide apprenticeship training.
We currently receive referrals from Social Services, Social Justice, Northumbria
Police, Northumbria Healthcare, Women’s Refuge and the Job Centre and have implemented
an independent emergency Food Bank which is run from the Centre. We also provide
support packs for the homeless (flasks, food, toiletries, rucksacks, tents, sleeping
Our Community Shop sells good quality second hand clothes and other goods at a fraction
of the cost of other High Street Charity Shops. We are staffed mainly by volunteers
and all profits go back into the Centre to benefit the local community.
Our centre is staffed mainly by volunteers. If you have a few hours a week to spare
to help us change lives in our local community we would love to hear from you. Contact
details are available here. Due to the nature of our work, DBS checks will be compulsory
for some volunteering positions.
