We are delighted to announce we have secured a further 3 years funding to enable
our vital Youth provision to continue in our Teen Bar. We are extremely grateful
to the Northumberland Children's Trust for supporting the vital work we are doing
with the young people in the area. We know the Teen Bar works and it provides a safe,
healthy environment for young people to “hang out” with friends and get involved
in supervised activities if they choose to.
We offer all the young people that come to The Teen Bar the opportunity to do something
positive and provide alternatives to getting into trouble on the streets, which can
lead to difficult, dangerous or anti-social behaviour, petty crime or vulnerability
to drug and substance misuse.
The building is now fully operational and provides vital help and support to some
of the most vulnerable people in the surrounding area.
We have huge numbers of people using our services every week and these numbers continue
to increase week on week as more people become affected by the current economic climate.
Our facilities and services are being used by people of all ages from school children
to pensioners. We are providing food and hot drinks to some of the community’s most
vulnerable people, especially those suffering from financial and fuel poverty. We
supply furniture, clothing and food parcels to those desperately in need as well
as packs of essential items, tents & sleeping bags, showering & laundry facilities
& a day sleeping room for those who are homeless.
Our Community Cafe allows local members of the community a warm place of care and
refuge, a listening ear, companionship and direct practical help. We currently receive
referrals from a number of statutory and local services and community organisations
including NHS, Crisis teams, mental health support workers, Northumbria Police and
local housing offices. We provide volunteering opportunities to help provide experience
and training to help those unemployed back into the workplace Our Job Club provides
1:1 support for those with low literacy/IT skills with Job Search/application, CV
writing and interview preparation. Our Benefits & Welfare team give support with
form filling and benefit information - especially to those with disabilities.
